Energy of interaction between solid surfaces and liquids

چکیده
We consider the wetting transition on a planar surface in contact with a semi-infinite fluid. In the classical approach, the surface is assumed to be solid, and when interaction between solid and fluid is sufficiently short-range, the contribution of the fluid can be represented by a surface free energy with a density of the form Φ(ρS), where ρS is the limiting density of the fluid at the surface. In the present paper we propose a more precise representation of the surface energy that takes into account not only the value of ρS but also the contribution from the whole density profile ρ(z) of the fluid, where z is coordinate normal to the surface. The specific value of the functional of ρS at the surface is expressed in meanfield approximation through the potentials of intermolecular interaction and some other parameters of the fluid and the solid wall. An extension to the case of fluid mixtures in contact with a solid surface is proposed.

A mechanical model for liquid nanolayers
Liquids in contact with solids are submitted to intermolecular forces making liquids heterogeneous and stress tensors are not any more spherical as in homogeneous bulks. The aim of this article is to show that a square-gradient functional representing liquid-vapor interface free energy corrected with a liquid density functional at solid surfaces is a well adapted model to study structures of ve...

This potential is introduced for the interaction of floating nuclei in the electron sea, and attractive term is a many body ...
متن کاملNanoscale Transport Phenomena at the Interface of Hard and Soft Matter
Hard and soft matter can be distinguished by the energy of chemical bonds in comparison with kBT. At the interface of hard and soft matter, there exists a region of transition between strong (covalent/ionic/metallic) bonds in solids and weak (van der Waals/hydrogen/electrostatic) interactions in liquids and polymers. Transport of energy and mass at such interfaces is yet to be fully explored, b...

The design of robust omniphobic surfaces, which are not wetted by low-surface-tension liquids such as octane (γlv=21.6 mN/m) and methanol (γlv=22.7 mN/m), requires an appropriately chosen surface micro/nanotexture in addition to a low solid-surface energy (γsv). 1H,1H,2H,2H-Heptadecafluorodecyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (fluorodecyl POSS) offers one of the lowest solid-surface energy...
